Tony Lee Luen Len, founding chairperson of the Green Building Council of Mauritius and Director of Ecosis, has over 20 years experience in the construction industry, 15 years of which specialised in sustainability, in green buildings and sustainable communities.
He grew up in Mauritius and in 1991 he left for Cape Town, South Africa for his tertiary studies. He resided and worked in South Africa until 2006, when he returned to his home country.
His experience covers the whole spectrum of the construction industry swapping hats between professional quantity surveyor and project manager, but also as contractor. In South Africa, he also started a training company for resources (previously disadvantaged individuals) in the construction industry. Tony managed one of the leading South African aluminium and glass company between 2000 and 2006. He has worked on over 100 projects, ranging from airports, residential marinas to shopping centres.
As a sustainability consultant, he has knowledge of green design, green products and technologies and sustainability principles. He has pioneered several green technologies, such as natural pool systems and extensive green roof systems. In 2007, he developed the first award-winning green residential development in Mauritius. He is currently the sustainability consultant on the first BREEAM Communities certified smart city project in Africa.
Tony is extending his expertise as an accredited partnership broker in cross sector collaborative projects. One to note is the “Regenerating Port Louis” project for which Ecosis is developing a “Commitment to Action” to be announced at the 2015 annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York.
Tony also consults on regulatory and policy work locally and internationally having completed work for UN-Habitat, World GBC, UNEP, and the Government of Mauritius on fields such as sustainable buildings and constructions and energy efficiency. He is a committee member of the Sustainable Cities Initiative of the World GBC.
Tony has won several awards for his work in the sustainability fields.
